Fat Dan’s Deli

This eatery/bar is one of Indianapolis’ best kept secrets.  Located at 5410 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46220.  The food is classic Chicago style food.  The kicker is it’s better than classic Chicago food.  The reviews are far above good.  By the way its kid friendly, so you can take the entire family out for a delicious and filling meal.  The staff is friendly and very confident in the food.  You know when you ask what’s good and the waiter says everything, well these guys weren’t lying.

Food and Beer Choices Galore

Beer choices are quite overwhelming, that’s a good thing.   My wife and I found this place on a humble.  We were looking for something different over the holiday weekend.  Thanks to Apple Maps Fat Dan’s Deli was recommended.  Who doesn’t appreciate food more than a fat guy.  So we were overly delighted to try the wet Italian beef and the brisquette.  We also tried the rhinegeist bubbles rose ale.  Guess what my wife likes beer, now we can have a beer after work together!  The sandwiches were perfect with the right flavor and heat.  One word of advice, order the small fry and share with a friend.  The portions are generous with everything we ordered.

Pricing is fair and inexpensive.  Two meals (big enough to feed two people), order of fries, and a couple of pints for $40.00 including 20% tip.  So for a date cut that in half, that’s how big the portions were.  Enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.  Only downside was we had to leave just as the Cubs game was coming on.

All in all it is a great place with a sports bar feel.  The added benefit is its a cubbie bar in my hometown.  The ability to watch a Cubs game with other cubbies, and not have to pay Chicago rent, is priceless.
